HCPA Applauds the House for Unanimous Passage of PRIA

Reauthorization of major pesticide law creates certainty for manufacturers, protects consumers, workers and jobs
The Household & Commercial Products Association (HCPA) applauds the United States House of Representatives for unanimously passing S.483, the reauthorization of the Pesticide Registration Improvement Act (PRIA). The reauthorization of this major pesticide law will create certainty for manufacturers, strengthen confidence in the program, and ensure that investment in new products continues, protecting consumers, workers and jobs.
“On behalf of the household and commercial products industry, we would like to thank the U.S. House for promptly and unanimously passing S.483, especially House Agriculture Committee Chairman, Collin Peterson (D-Minn.), for his steadfast leadership in shepherding S.483 through the House,” said HCPA President and CEO Steve Caldeira. “HCPA again thanks Senators Pat Roberts (R-Kan.), Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) and Tom Udall (D-N.M.) for their sponsorship of PRIA reauthorization in the U.S. Senate.”
S.483 was amended by the House, which means it must return to the U.S. Senate for a vote on the amended version. HCPA is confident that the Senate will move quickly to send S.483 to President Trump’s desk.
“As the voice of the industry, HCPA worked collaboratively with policymakers on both sides of the aisle, in both chambers, as well as with NGOs and allied trade associations to find a pathway for PRIA reauthorization,” said Caldeira. “PRIA supports the products that help keep families and workplaces safe, clean and healthy – the products that are their first line of defense against the spread of bacteria, the flu virus and insect-borne diseases like West Nile, Zika and Lyme disease. We are pleased that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will continue to receive proper funding for this cost-effective, sustainable and efficient way to review the safety of these increasingly-important products.”
