HCPA Sends Letter to EPA Requesting That OPP Remove Two-Year Registration Time Limit for Pet Spot-On Products
April 9, 2018
On March 21, Dr. Steve Bennett, vice president, scientific affairs, HCPA, sent a letter to a senior EPA official requesting that OPP remove the current two-year time limit for pet spot-on products. EPA has had these products on a two-year registration cycle for the past 8 years. Member companies have complied with EPA’s request for enhanced labeling and reporting for these products and have experienced a significant reduction in the number of reported incidents associated with the new labeling requests; however, EPA has still required registrants to “re-register” these products every two years at considerable cost to the manufacturers. This practice of requiring registrants to re-register resulted in a significant drain on OPP resources that could be better used dealing with pressing registration applications.
EPA will be hosting a Pet Spot-On Enhanced Reporting Pilot webinar on May 10 from 1 to 3 PM EST. Supporting documents will become available in April via the Office of Pesticide Programs’ website.
