The Scientific Advisory Committee on Chemicals (SACC) found that the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) draft risk evaluation of Pigment Violet (PV) 29 needs additional studies and data on the chemical. PV 29 was the first chemical to be evaluated and completed under the updated Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA).

The SACC advised that the EPA failed to demonstrate that a chemical used for dye does not present an unreasonable risk to human health. According to the peer-reviewed report, “The Committee members were in general agreement that the information presented to support the conclusions outlined in the draft risk characterization was not sufficiently robust for this purpose.”
