Industry Advancements

Overview

Innovation is essential for connecting consumers and workers with products and solutions that elevate the sustainability, efficacy, and safety of household and commercial products. HCPA promotes member company efforts in developing and commercializing the next generation of products that drive positive change while acknowledging the importance of protecting trade secrets.

Pre-Commercialization Regulatory Review

EPA resources support efficient, science-based pre-commercialization regulatory review and registration of new products and chemicals under the Toxic Substance Control Act (TSCA) and the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA), including the development of Significant New Use Rules (SNURs) to improve regulatory outcomes for chemicals with enhanced public health and environmental profiles.

Green Chemistry

HCPA works to advance sustainable and green chemistry by supporting efforts to establish a clear federal definition of green chemistry to guide policy and advance innovation in the industry. HCPA collaborates with external organizations, such as the American Chemical Society (ACS), to share knowledge on emerging innovations and strengthen workforce development and education for green chemistry.

Increasing Visibility of Sustainable Innovation

When sustainable innovation is shared and recognized across the industry, it accelerates adoption, inspires further advancements, and drives collective progress toward a greener and more sustainable economy. HCPA’s Innovation Awards celebrate members of the household and commercial products industry for accomplishments in product innovation in five categories, Carbon Footprint, Circular Economy, End-User Communication, Ingredients, and Technology. Awardees are honored and given the opportunity to present their innovations at HCPA’s Annual Meeting.
