Overview

HCPA member companies make and sell products that are critical for protecting public health, including disinfectants that kill germs; air fresheners, room deodorizers, and candles that eliminate odors, pest management products for home, lawn and garden, and pets; cleaning products and polishes; and aerosols. HCPA advocates for policies that support science-based regulatory processes and works to establish and uphold product performance standards to bring trusted and effective products to the market.

Combatting the Spread of Diseases

HCPA and its members work closely with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the state lead agencies (SLAs) that regulate pesticide products to support science-based policies that enable the timely approval of innovative antimicrobial products that prevent the spread of infectious diseases. These products reduce the transmission of harmful pathogens in homes, schools, healthcare facilities, and public spaces by meeting rigorous efficacy standards. HCPA also partners with stakeholders across the supply chain to strengthen public health preparedness and response efforts, such as what we experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Protecting Communities from Pests & Infestations

HCPA member companies manufacture products that protect against diseases carried and/or transmitted by pests, such as mosquitoes, rodents, cockroaches, and ticks. HCPA works with the EPA’s Registration Division and SLAs to advocate for consistent regulatory frameworks that ensure timely access to a broad range of pest control tools and minimize inconsistent decisions related to pesticide applications and labeling amendments.

Ensuring a Diverse Pest Management Toolbox

HCPA supports a broad portfolio of pest control solutions that address both public health and non-public health pests. This includes products certified under the EPA’s Safer Choice program, Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) 25(b) minimum risk pesticides, and pesticide devices. These tools play an important role in integrated pest management strategies.
