Between June 18-21, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) Scientific Advisory Committee on Chemicals (SACC) held its first public meeting to peer review the draft risk evaluation of Pigment Violet 29 (PV 29). Dr. Steve Bennett, HCPA’s Senior Vice President, Scientific Affairs, is a member of SACC and participated in the meeting. This diverse committee of experts questioned the scientific and technical foundation on the risk evaluation of PV 29 and raised a number of significant concerns with the EPA’s work around PV 29. Based on this meeting, SACC will generate a report which will include their scientific considerations for the EPA to guide the final risk evaluation of PV 29.

SACC will continue to meet over the next several months to evaluate the remaining draft risk evaluations of the first 10 chemicals under the reformed TSCA.

Information about the SACC can be found here.

Additionally, the EPA released draft risk evaluations for both Cyclic Aliphatic Bromide Cluster (HBCD) and 1,4-dioxane for comment. Additionally, scientific considerations of the draft risk evaluations will be peer-reviewed by the SACC during the week of July 29. Comments close on August 30, and companies are encouraged to review the draft risk evaluations and provide comments to the EPA.
