On April 15, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced that between June 11 and June 14, the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) Scientific Advisory Panel (SAP) will meet to review the EPA’s Proposed Guidelines for Efficacy Testing of Topically Applied Pesticides Used Against Certain Ectoparasitic Pests on Pets.

The FIFRA SAP serves as one of the primary scientific peer review mechanisms of the EPA’s Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention (OCSPP). The FIFRA SAP is structured to provide independent scientific advice, information and recommendations to the EPA Administrator on pesticide-related issues to inform the impact of regulatory actions on human health and the environment. The SAP members were announced in early May and the panelists bios are now available. The EPA has also released the Draft Product Performance Test Guidelines (OCSPP 810.3300) and Charge Questions for the Panelists.

To assist in the Household & Commercial Products Association’s (HCPA) comment development in advance of the SAP, there was a dedicated working session during the Mid-Year Meeting. The working session was in combination with utilization of the Pet Products Work Group within the Pest Management Products Division.

Please contact Dr. Steve Bennett, Senior Vice President, Scientific Affairs, at sbennett@thehcpa.org for additional comments or questions.
